The most important part of a family farm, is the family on the farm. I am lucky to be blessed with a wonderful wife and two beautiful little helpers (third on the way). There are many tasks on the farm that require years of skill and experience, and the only way to gain those years of skill and experience is to grow up watching and learning how to do that. While we always strive to be profitable, to grow the farm, and expand our product offerings, the main overriding goal is to provide opportunities for our children to learn how to work, how to struggle, how to care, how to fail, and how to succeed. It makes me proud when my son asks if he can help with chores, when my daughter helps collect eggs, or when we spend the day working on projects and nobody is asking to go inside. I cringe when I have to buy hay for the winter, but it melts my heart when my 18 month old daughter wakes up and looks out the window in the morning and yells Heyyyy Cooooows.

My goal every year is to take a few steps forward with promoting and growing our little homestead into a thriving farm enterprise. I feel like we made several big strides this year through the addition of our own cattle, purchasing a tractor, and probably the biggest leap forward, creating a website! Yes I know it isn't much now but securing the domain name is the first step. For now this will just be set up as a blog, a place for us to dump our ramblings and crazy ideas, but eventually this will serve as the face of our farm and a place to share our brand (literal and figurative) with the world.
